Cy Young pitched投 his first Major League Baseball game on August 6, 1890.Although that was over 100 years ago, he is as well known today as any pitcher投手 in history. 

Denton True Young was born on March 29, 1867, in Gilmore, Ohio俄亥俄州. He was raised on a farm. He grew to be 6’2" tall and 210 pounds. When he left home at age 23 to become a pitcher, he was known as Dent Young. Before long, he was nicknamed “Cy”, as in cyclone旋风, because of his blinding眩目的 fastball. 

Cy played baseball for 22 years. During that time, he was the winning pitcher 511 times. No other pitcher in Major League Baseball history has even come close to that total. 

Three of his wins were nohitters. None of the batters击球手 was able to hit the ball. Cy's best game was when no one hit the ball and no one got on base. This is known as a perfect game for a pitcher. 

Cy pitched for five different teams during his career in both the National and American Leagues. He pitched his last game in 1911 when he was 44. When asked how he lasted so long, he said, "I had a good arm and good legs. I had good control. I threw as few pitches as possible." 

Cy Young was elected推选 to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. Since 1956, the Cy Young Award has been given every year to the best pitcher in each league. 

Cy returned to his farm in Ohio when he retired from baseball. On November 4, 1955, while sitting on his porch门廊, he died of a heart attack. He was 88.
